The Maine Destroyed! Is Spain to Blame?

On February 15, a terrible and unprovoked crime was committed on the United States, showing that a war is desperately needed. Innocently sitting in the Havana harbor, the U.S.S. Maine was ripped apart by an explosion, killing over 250 Americans. This loss came as a shock to all of America. Who could have destroyed the Maine?

Spain has been mistreating Cuba for far too long, and the people are finally tired of being bullied and abused. Searching for any sort of help, the Cubans turned to America for help. Knowing this, Spain would not allow American involvement in the situation; in hope of scaring off the U.S., and any other country that sympathizes with the Cuban people, they placed explosives in the Maine.

How long will the United States government remain indifferent on a problem that is not only affecting the Cuban population but that is now affecting our welfare? How long will the United States sit back with such murder and mistreatment? We as Americans need to show Spain who they are dealing with, and that we will not be attacked. A war must be declared!
